Britain’s immigration-status system is increasingly organised around the eVisa, an online record accessed through a UKVI account. In an update dated October 12, 2026, the government said more than 10 million people were accessing an eVisa at the end of 2025.
The publication explains that a large share held status through the EU Settlement Scheme. Work, Study and Graduate visas were among the other common routes represented.
The update also describes how account access supports services including checks on the right to work and rent. It distinguishes the underlying immigration permission from the online account used to access its digital record.
The figures describe the period specified by the government, not a live count of visa holders today. This explainer summarises the official publication without making an assessment of anyone’s status.
